this is my first pocket pc that i purchased it to replace my handspring visor. the metal case is very sleek, matched with the color screen, it definitely is a head turner. the rechargeable battery is a nice feature, although the life span is rather short. the serial sync cable included works fairly well but a usb cable would have been better. the infared sync works well with my laptop, but it's much slower than the serial cable. one thing that does annoy me is the fact that you can not store the stylus on the pda itself (like on the palm or visor) rather it stores in the protect sleeve instead. if you get this device you will soon find that the built-in memory is not enough, so i highly recommend getting an additional compact flash memory card. i have used it as an mp3 player but since i store the music on the expansion cf card, reading from the cf slot drains the battery pretty quick. i have also done some light editing of word and excel documents while on the go which works out great.
i also have a cf analog modem and cf wireless card to access the internet, it's not very fast but gets the job done when i need to chek my email. color depth is not all that great, you cannot view pictures or video very well but that might be expecting too much.Get more detail about Hewlett Packard Jornada 525 Color Pocket PC.

When i was going to buy this i was somewhat convinised not to buy it because of the other reviews but i found out it was the best pda yet. now im a family doctor so i need a pda in my office because well i need it. wether it being a slow day and i want to play a couple cards games or needing to find the right answer this helps alot!insteand of serching through my head or my files i just use this. it just makes life easyer. and this is also a good pda for kids. my son can play on it for hours and not get board. and the viewsonic help line is great. when i first got it the usb cradle was a little lose and it took alot longer to charge thean it should so i called them up and i had a person to talk to. they said from time to time this happens and they sent me out a new cradle and a free update. how nice... iv had it for about 9months and not a problem with it yet. it has a nice screen good music sound and a good connection to the internet. im still surpised i got it for just 100 bucks. it could have easly been 3 or 4 hundred. now if your looking for a good and cheap pda i would deffently go with the v35. I recently upgraded my hearing aids to a pair of Phonak aids and I purchased the phonak iCom. I did this so I could make a blue tooth pairing with my cell phone. With the Motorola Dc800 Bluetooth Stereo Gateway I am also able to hear my stereo, my TV, etc. in stereo through my hearing aids. I do not have to turn the volume up a drive the rest the family out of the room. Late at night if I want I can watch listen to music without anyone else hearing it. And I have stereo pumped through my hearing aids as I walk around the house. This is freedom for hearing aid patients like me.Get more detail about Motorola 89015J Dc800 Bluetooth Stereo Gateway.
I bought this two and half years ago. I was spending a lot of time in the States and needed a GPS. I bought it because I thought once I got home I could get UK maps for it and fit them on the Hard drive. Now, as others have noted it's discontinued and I can't even get updates for the US, so I've had to buy a Nuvi for UK and Europe and TomTom software for my Phone for US trips. Thing is 6 months after I bought it I contacted Navman to buy the maps and was told I had an obselete model they wouldn't sell me UK maps and all they could do was offer me a 20% off a new Navman satnav. So I have a perfectly servicable machine that sits in drawer because the company that makes it refuses to sell me software to keep it current or make it useable in the UK. Frankly they should be ashamed to treat customers this way. I'll never buy anything Navman again so be warned. As the other reviewers have said you can't buy map updates or maps for additional countries. Don't buy this model.Get more detail about Navman iCN 550 GPS Navigator.

After an incredibly good (but rather short) relationship with the CASSIOPEIA E-100 (you could read my review about it), I bought another CASIO PDA. Why? Well, I found out that, although the size, they're quite nifty and reliable.
When I finally got it, being used to the E-100, I had some problems with the E-125, like with the JotReader (Too many lines, too complex or easy to use), the MENU program (Funky colours anyone?) the Taskbar in the upper part of the screen, and most of all, no background image in the Today screen.
But, the positive side is that there are tons of more software for this, solving most of the problems mentioned before (thanks to NOVOSEC for the excelent FACELIFT program), plus the included aplications from Microsoft that make the transfer between the desktop and the PDA easier.
It's good speed make it a competitive PDA even today, and I could add that its easier to use than many of the ones that are in the market today, but as the technological advance is an exponential function, many of the software developers have stopped making programs for it, or even dissappeared, so sometimes is kind of difficult getting the program that you read in the web that's top-notch (in pages that date 2002).
With all this said, I still think that buying this PDA, for novice users or experienced ones, is a great thing.Get more detail about Casio Cassiopeia E-125 Color Pocket PC.
It uses main battery rapidly. I have tried many batteries and the symptom was the same: the battery indicator went down fast (much worse performance than that of Jornada 720). The Casio Cassiopeia PV-200e model is a wonderful machine that will keep an unorganized techie in-sync with their home or office PC while on the road. The PV-200e features all the PV-200 model advantages except the backlit display and desktop cradle. The serial cable sync operation is one-touch and will update information on both the Casio and home or office computer's operating systems. The included software is easy to use and free downloadable software makes the unit compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2000 and before. One exceptional feature that the PV-200e has is the clarity of the on-screen writing in the Quick-Memo function. The player had to be reset often while it was working as there would be no sound or it wouldn't turn on. About 6 months after I bought this player the battery died so I replaced it. Since then the player won't work. It flashes error screens and none of the "fixes" on the creative site work to repair the issue with the firmware, the device is not recognized as being connected. Microsoft is aware of the issue and they say it's creatives problem and suggested some options that did not help. When I phoned Creative they told me that they no longer make this product and would replace it (at my expense) with a newer version (I purchased it in June 07). There is no fix option for this player should it break, you will never be able to update any software for it or diagnose problems with it on the Creative support site. Creative is a terrible company and I would not recommend that anyone purchase this item. If I could give it less than 1 star, I would.Get more detail about Creative Zen 20 GB Portable Media Center.

This PDA is great. The small size allows it to fit in my pocket where I can play music off a storage card while I am biking. The processor is adequate enough for relatively intense games. The battery life is pretty long, I can listen to music for hours (beware of backlight, though.) It has everything you'll need: all apps in pocket windows (also Resco Explorer), recorder, speaker, bright screen, infrared... It doesn't have wireless or bluetooth though. The only annoyances are an audio jack that does not comply with the standard audio plug, you have to carry a mini-converter. Also the charger is inconvenient; there's no dock, and it doesn't fit well into the PDA.
Overall, for a casual PDA, this is the one!Get more detail about HP iPAQ 1935 Pocket PC.
At first it was amazing. It simply locked up and wouldn't turn off. Had to take out battery to initialize, then one day that didn't work. Sent in for warranty service. Got it back and a couple of weeks later the screen cracked with light use of the stylus. Sent it back for warranty repair. They refused claiming a cracked screen was sign of abuse, period. Never got it serviced, never got my money back, they treated me like I was trying to [cheat] them. A total waste of money and worse than that the 12 people who bought it on my recommendation probably had similar experiences. I got the E-105 and have used it for a few months now. The MP3 player is OK, but after playing 5 or 6 songs, it hogs memory and starts cracking. The only way to remedy is to soft reset the machine. Using the MP3 player slowly drains the memory until it performs painfully slow. The sync cradle does not work properly and disconnects from the computer at random intervals. The screen is all scratched from using the stylus (weak). The more programs loaded onto the 32 megs of internal memory, the slower it gets. Loading even 1 MP3 file on the 32 megs of internal memory makes it painfully slow. What is the point of having so much memory if you can't use it? CE could use a new version too. There is no option to close programs. You have to either reset the machine or go to START, SETTINGS, SYSTEM, TASK MANAGER, END TASK to close programs. What's up with that? The intent for a good product is there, but don't beleive the hype, this product is not ready for the masses.Get more detail about Casio Cassiopeia E-105 Palm-Size PC.

I bought this device to read ebooks, and it does ok for a low price (like under $100). I use Word, Tiny Ebook Reader, MS Reader and Mobipocket. They all work, within limits.
This device is extremely crashy and locks up a lot if you try to do too much. Make sure you never have more than one application running, and I would never trust my contacts or calendar to it.
As I bought it to use as a pure ebook reader, and got it cheap, I'm satisfied, but don't be fooled into thinking it's a real Pocket PC, it's just not stable enough.Get more detail about Toshiba e310 Pocket PC.
I bought my HP 548 in good faith. Paid good money. When it came time to buy a battery, I got shuffled around the planet talking to the folks (support) in India whom were polite but didn't provide any answers. The result was, I was to the forced to buy (on my own) a questionable battery from another source which doesn't work (it seems to be counterfeit). I'm glad Carly is gone from HP.

A few days ago I asked HP the upgrade to Pocket Windows 2003 for my Jornada 565, bought at Amazon on May 30, 2002. I bought this unit just as they were being discontinued in 2004(?). For its time, this was a fantastic machine but the fact that Toshiba has never released a new os for it has pretty much hamstrung it for current usefulness. The US version of this unit comes with wifi but no bluetooth, the european version comes with bluetooth but no wifi. There were some interesting addons made for this unit. It was one of the first pdas with sdio support (meaning you can use a device in the sd slot just like the compact flash slot(such as a gps, bluetooth card etc.). There was also a add-on piece made for this pda with a usb slot and a vga plug for an external monitor, projector etc. I bought the addon glad I did because they are no longer available. Batteries still available on ebay, I also got the add-on charger. Even though MS supposedly offered free windows mobile 5 licenses, Toshiba never took up the gauntlet and released an update; real shame because hardware wise it's still a respectable machine. If you choose to use this today you're really restricted by what will run on it (pocket pc2003 SE). There are rumors that google will be releasing a version of Android for pdas but again, we'll be at the mercy of toshiba or a techie hacker for a os loader that will work on this pda. As it happens the e805 is a great machine for playing mp3's I was able to find a free mp3 player that supports several other formats as well so currently that's what I am using mine for. It does as well as most small mp3 players I've seen and other than no bluetooth it does well enough with better battery life if you've invested in a high performance battery. The unit can also play mpeg videos (again free players available online). With the proper add on drivers you can install the usb gadget and plug a memory stick or external hard drive into the unit and move files back and forth (I believe the driver cost me like 20 bucks years ago). The gps software I used to run on it no longer has up to date maps and newer pda packages no longer run on pc2003 so I can't use it for that anymore, which is a shame because it's excellent for that function.
I don't know if I'd pay 250 for this anymore (mine was like 600 new and that was a bargain at that time) since it's really only good for a media player anymore, if they'd realease a new OS for this it would again shine as an awesome machine.Get more detail about Toshiba e805 Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003.
This unit runs Windows CE operating system by Microsoft. Great built-in apps (Office, Excel, Access, Power Point, etc.). The keyboard is a bit cramped for speed typing.
This is my least favorite PDA device (I also have the IBM-Z50, HP Jornada 680 and 728 models, Casio E-125). The NEC 900 was built mainly to be used in industrial settings. The screen is dull and somewhat washed-out.
I only take this unit with me to job-sites in high-crime areas, so if I lose it, I won't care that much!
Still ... It's better than a PDA with no keyboard. The screen is OK when indoors. There is a lot of Windows CE software out there (on the Internet) for free. Good for the kiddies doing their homework on the run.
Better units are the Jornada 680,728 series - light, small and good screen,
and the IBM Z50 its almost full-size keyboard and great IBM support. Get more detail about NEC Mobile Pro 900.

Ok, bought this device because it has a nice keyboard, I can take it with me and write stuff without killing trees. So far it's been great for this. Battery lasts most of the day and I can leave it in the charger at night. It's simple to use, touch screen works great. Just one thing. It won't communicate with my PC. It has no USB connection, the older connector it has doesn't work. Possibly because my Microsoft XP is too advanced for it, next thing I thought of was sharing a memory card. I got an adaptor and a Kingston memory card and hooked it up. It works great on PC, but NEC doesn't recognize. After doing some web surfing I get a flash card. NEC 790 has a type 2 CF or compact flash card outlet in front. But it does recognize a type 1 flashcard. Thank You God. I got a flashcard reader to transfer data to my PC, and here's where things get exciting.
My PC recognizes the pocket word format of the NEC 790 files, but the NEC 790 does not recognize Microsoft word format. After several hours of trying to convert Microsoft word to Pocket Word Document, I found a chat site that told me to convert them to text files then change the header from txt to .pwd. This worked. So after two days of frustration and over 100$ in additional hardware I can now move documents from my obsolete NEC 790 to my PC and back. I think this sort of hassle it uncalled for and I'm a bit pissed off. I'm not messing with the internet access or its other functions because I don't need them and I'm glad I don't need them.
The reason I'm giving this product 4 stars is I don't think it's the developers fault the Microsoft empire makes so much more money if I pay 2000$ for a modern handheld that can relate to the modern software they've seen fit to provide us. This device does what I want, and costs less then a modern equivalent. I'm happy with it but depending on what you want you might think twice before buying this thing.

I tried searching the Viewsonic website to find out how the V37-2 differed from the V37 and I couldn't find that distinction. Viewsonic has nothing related to "v37-2". Maybe it was an OS upgrade or something. Here's my review on the original V37.
I received a V37 as a promotional deal that packaged it with a new MSDN Universal subscription (Microsoft's Software Developer tools). It was better than my Palm m505 at the time so I used the V37. I had no complaints for the few years that I used it until recently when I could no longer sync (transfer data between the V37 and my computer). I believe it's a hardware problem with the port on the V37 itself to which the USB cable connects. I don't think it's worth fixing and I can't sell it like that so I recently purchased a new PDA (another brand). Pay attention to the other review for the V37 that points out you can no longer upgrade the OS from Pocket PC 2002 to Pocket PC 2003. I missed out during the short window of time that was available from Viewsonic--and it's true, it's no longer available. If you're thinking of buying a V37, don't get a new one as there are other PDAs on the market now that are better and in the same price range. But if you are considering a used one at a decent price (say under $200), it's a nice PDA. Bright screen, color of course, enough memory for all but the extreme PDA addict. I wish it had a louder meeting reminder sound. I would give this a higher rating if it we were still in the year 2002 (maybe a 3 or 4 out of 5). But by today's standards, it's on the verge of being "like...so 5 minutes ago!"Get more detail about ViewSonic V37 Pocket PC (V37-2).
I purchased this GPS 2 years ago and was extremely thrilled to see the features that this GPS/PDA system contains. However, I was extremely disappointed with the system and would suggest nobody to consider it for purchase in future. It takes forever to connect to the satellite, responds slowly and often after the wrong turn has been taken, loses signal every now and then, hangs in the middle of the road and has even started updating maps in the middle of the drive- a huge safety hazard because you have to turn on the GPS again after the updates have been installed while driving. The GPS does not take the addresses from the address book correctly and tends to misguide you. Garmin is unhelpful on this and often unresponsive. Beware of this product and its nice looks.Get more detail about Garmin iQue M3 Pocket PC integrated with GPS.

Also I bought software to do maintenance, clean the registry and to find and delete temporary and unused files en masse. What a difference this made. I was getting ready to put down a couple hundred dollars on an MP3 player, but decided to try my PDA first. I am so glad I did.
