I had this phone for a year until I had to switch providers. I must say that I didn't treat it very well. Not long after I bought it, I accidentally sat on it, which broke the external LC display. As the phone kept working, I didn't change it. Then (and this was the real problem with this phone) the internal display start freezing from time to time or being black. This was a factory problem...but you could still use the phone...The last thing was that (again accidentally) I dropped it in the water next to the curb. I opened it, dried it and guess what? It kept working...

*HOWEVER* the Kajeet phone service plan is WROUGHT with hidden charges. Here is a small sampling of what they will charge you: $.32 cents per day access fee (adding up to almost $10/per month) and this fee is always charged everyday, even if you don't use your phone all that day. Next, when you buy time, they charge you 5% EXTRA in fees, simply for adding time to your account! The 5% for adding time was NEVER mentioned before I purchased this phone and is only revealed when you actually set up your account and are trying to buy some time. These are just the fees that I know of SO FAR.

Also, I have experienced nothing but trouble and wasted time when trying to activate the phone online. After spending a half hour typing in various personal information and creating two separate logins and giving my credit card information, in the end, after all that time (and right when I thought I was done and ready to get my phone number and have my activation take place), I got an error message. Trying to go back and see what is wrong erases ALL of your information so that you essentially have to start over. After finally giving up on the online method, I called Kajeet customer service and was on the phone for another 20+ minutes, basically REPEATING all the info. I had just tried to complete twice online. After all of this, the agent says that the DEC id number of the phone is causing trouble and he has to create a "Trouble Ticket" for an engineer to look at the phone. He tells me that will take 24-48 hours to figure out. Note: This phone was purchased BRAND NEW from Amazon.com So, the bottom line is that if you do not mind paying lots of fees (and even hidden fees) to this company, as well as putting up with wasting an enormous amount of time trying to activate it, then this can be your phone! There are a ton of phones out there that will do all sorts of things but if all you want is a phone that holds a decent charge and gets good reception, this is the one.

I see some comments below from people who complain about coverage but that's not the phone's fault. I have had this phone for over a year and it's always given me a consistent signal (i.e. when it shows four bars, I get a clear call).

Ive had this phone for almost two years. I haven't had the issue of over heating like I have read in several reviews. But the battery life is excellent. Mine usually lasts for 3-5 days depending on my use. (heavy use 3 days/light use 5 days) The only issue that I really had was that I don't use voicemail and tried for the first 6 months to get Virgin Mobile to shut it off and everything they tried, they could not get it shut off. I haven't ever had an issue with any other Virgin Mobile phone with getting the voicemail shut off. Also, the blue-tooth seems to like to disconnect by itself for no reason. Not sure why it does that, but that could be improved.

If your screen is blank, or dark blue, power your phone down by taking out the battery. Put the battery back in and get a toothpick. With the phone off, and the phone in the closed position, pinch the toothpick through and push down the power button till it goes on. It may take a few tries, but it worked for me, my screen went on, and I was able to continue using my phone. My suggestion would be to get your contacts off, in case it doesn't work again.

Now let me just start by saying that I've been with Sprint Nextel for 4 years now, mostly because the company I work for switched wireless provider and I get associate discount. Anyway I've had almost every single PDA, Smartphone, MIT Sprint has to offer. My first phone was the Treo 650 with Palm OS. I prefer larger, bulkier devices rather than the small Blackberry Pearl or Palm Centro. Which were my last 2 phones. So to fix the problem I got this Samsung IP-830w. I've seen it before but because of the pricey tag of $500 (with contract extension) I was not able to get it. Yes, it's quite big compared to newer devices but it also has more features than most. This mobile intelligent terminal is loaded with Windows mobile 5.4. Atleast mine was. There's an update available from the home page of the Internet Explorer to 6.1 and you can also update live search, MSNBC, MSN live, so on. There's also the Picsel browser which I think is one of the best apps this device has to offer. Browsing the web is easier and so much fun. Picsel doubles as a document viewer. The device is Navigation compatible and various apps are available to download at different prices. Like with most smart devices Sprint Navigation is not compatible, but trust me, you won't miss it. Just buy a better one from the store app. Handmark Pocket Express is amazing on this device and provides you with free accurate maps, news, weather and so much more. The devices screen is large and displays an ok resolution. Nothing to get exited about really, the screen is fairly larger than most. The device itself has no video capabilities, atleast not out of the box. If you like streaming videos from YouTube mobile then you can buy a video streamer from the apps store. Once that's set you'll be ready to watch your vids in high res full screen. As far as the phone quality goes, I've got no complaint. It's not superb but better than the Palm Centros. As far as international features, which are the main attraction, the ability to control the settings with such ease makes this device better than most international blackberrys. The device also supports expandable memory. A mini SD card. Which is pretty good considering you can swap cards from other devices like your digital camera to view them or share media on the go. Up to 2gb are supported. With such a big size I wonder why there isn't a camera. It's not a big deal because I carry my Nikon and most smart devices now don't have a camera powerfull enough to replace a real one. So if your looking for a Blackberry alternative or you travel outside the US then this device is a must try. I've read some of the other reviews, this is my experience:
Pros:
1. This is a biggie--durability. I drop my phone on a regular basis, usually when it falls out of my car onto the pavement when I occasionally forget it is in my lap and then get out of the car. (Okay, no comments from the peanut gallery!) Nevertheless, my phone has continued to work 2 years later (it probably helps that my husband quickly bought me a case for the phone that remains on the phone even during calls).
2. I rarely have dropped calls and haven't had any problems with getting good reception and clarity practically everywhere. I forget to recharge regularly--my phone recharges pretty fast.
3. I saw comments from some of the other reviewers but I have never experienced any high-pitched noises.
4. My kids send and receive text messages/pictures/clips using my phone without any problems.
5. The screen is bright--I often use it as a flashlight in the car. One of these days, I will buy a flashlight for my car...
6. Did I mention that I found it very hard-wearing?
Cons:
1. Pictures on the camera phone are fuzzy.
2. Outside keys are handy but sometimes al contact gives you driving mode when you don't want it.
3. I wish the phone came with more ring tone choices because many ring tone websites don't support Verizon.

It's a good, basic cell phone--not as many bells and whistles as the newer phones and I haven't checked out some of the ones that are included. I bought this phone for phone convenience and it works well. By the way, I agree with the advice to ask friends where you live about their reception with their phone and its carrier--sometimes it matters in your area.
