I needed something small to record some interviews I was doing. Nothing very difficult in terms of recording conditions, but I didn't want to have a large or unwieldy recorder, and I thought digital was probably the way to go. I really wanted to get a Sony because I thought it would be the best, but it is very expensive, and I think that the value for that price knoecks its down to a 4 rating for me. I have recorded everything I wanted to. Very easy to operate and I am not mechanical. Just one button to press. And the sound quality is crystal clear. It picks up up the person being interviewed when I place it nearer to him/her, and it picks my questions up with no problems. It is sensitive to outdoor sounds but they do not overwhelm the interview. I am sure it would be great in a classroom situation. The only thing that is a bit difficult is that the device is SO small that it is hard to manipulate with my fingers. I have been able to transfer the recordings to my laptop with absolutely no trouble and, as I said, I'm not very good with these things so if I can do it anyone can. There are many hours of recording capacity. Directions are good. This really does far more of a job than I needed, probably, hence my feeling of it being somewhat expensive. If you have more tricky kinds of recordings I think this would be a very good 5 star investment.Get more detail about Sony ICD-UX71 Digital Voice Recorder with 1GB Flash Memory.
